Dear colleagues,
It is an exciting time since the academic year comes to a close. As we watch our students receive the degrees they have worked hard to earn, commencement is also a gratifying experience for our faculty members. You have played a key role in your students’ success, and you should be very proud. Our School of Nursing recently held a wonderful commencement ceremony, and we look forward to celebrating more of the 2025 graduates in the coming weeks and months.
Last month I shared each school’s faculty response rate for our AAMC Standpoint Survey. I am very pleased to provide some additional data from the survey. The rates below indicate levels of satisfaction among faculty and staff members by school and the university as a whole.
Faculty | Staff | |
Satisfaction with the University as the place to work | 66.4% | 77.2% |
Satisfaction with the JSSOM as the place to work | 66% | 75.6% |
Satisfaction with the SON as the place to work | 83% | 100% |
Satisfaction with the SHP as the place to work | 70.6% | 78.3% |
Satisfaction with the SPPH as the place to work | 88.5% | 88.2% |
Satisfaction with the GSBS as the place to work | 62.9% | 77.8% |
* 65% is a threshold. Satisfaction above 65% is considered good.
We are currently analyzing the results for presentation to the institutional leaders and UTMB community and making plans to work with each school in creating action plan to address faculty and staff’s needs and concerns. Please stay tuned for more communication regarding the results of the faculty and staff satisfaction and engagement survey.
Finally, I would like to thank those who have submitted nominations for our Faculty Excellence and Lifetime Achievement Awards. These prestigious awards will recognize UTMB’s most outstanding faculty members; nominations by their colleagues and leaders are due May 7.
We look forward to celebrating our honorees at the Faculty Recognition Reception on Sept. 4, 2025. Thank you to everyone who contributes to a culture of faculty recognition and celebration!
Sincerely,
Susan Chubinskaya, PhD, MS
Senior Vice President and Provost (Interim)
