OFFICE OF INNOVATION OPEN HOUSE 'ALTERNATIVE FUNDING SOURCES'

With the ever changing landscape, competitive nature, and uncertainty surrounding NIH funding, its important that researchers understand other funding sources that may be available for them.

Healthcare institutions play a crucial role in advancing medical research, improving patient care, and fostering innovation. While NIH grants have traditionally been a primary source of funding for many institutions, it is increasingly important to diversify funding sources to ensure the sustainability and growth of healthcare research and development. One effective way to achieve this is by seeking alternative funding through programs like the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR).

SBIR and STTR programs are designed to support small businesses and collaborative research efforts between small businesses and research institutions. These programs offer significant advantages for healthcare institutions. For instance, they provide access to substantial funding that can be used to develop innovative technologies, treatments, and solutions that may not fit within the scope of traditional NIH grants. This flexibility allows institutions to explore cutting-edge ideas and address emerging healthcare challenges.

Please join us as Haito Ho, PhD., Associate Professor Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Dr. Bartosz Szczensy, Associate Professor Department of Ophthalmology and Anesthesia Services share their journey of successfully obtaining Alternative Funding!
