Former Pepper Scholars Receive New Grants

Congratulations to Dr. Neil Mehta and Dr. Huiwen Xu on receiving new external research funding in aging. 

Dr. Mehta was awarded a five-year grant from NIH/NIA, "Demography of Immigrant Mortality in the United States: Leveraging Novel Census Linkages to Death Records, Earnings Trajectories, and Residential Mobility."

Dr. Xu was awarded a four-year grant from NIH/NIA, "Alzheimer's Special Care Units in Nursing Homes: Racial and Ethnic Disparities, Resident Outcomes, and State Policies." Read an article about the award from Emory University, where Dr. Xu is now an Associate Professor: Emory nursing school receives $1.6 million grant to study dementia care disparities in nursing homes.

Both researchers are former UTMB Pepper Center Scholars
