The goals of the Clinical Ethics Fellowship are:

  • Train fellows to become a competent, independent clinical ethics consultant with exposure to a range of ethical issues and practice setting
  • Promote the fellow's professional and personal growth, through experiences and a philosophy of practice that foregrounds the humanistic aspects of health and interdisciplinary perspectives on issues

Our Fellowship Offers

  • The Clinical Ethics Fellowship provides intensive training in clinical ethics consultation in a variety of health care settings and diverse patient populations, including critical care, pediatrics, burns care OBGYN, and carceral care.
  • The Fellow will learn an approach to ethics consultation that is informed by the health humanities.
  • The Fellow will conduct bioethics and health humanities research in line with their interests and be afforded the opportunity to teach health students, graduate students, and professionals.
  • The Fellow will increase the points of contact between the Clinical Ethics Consultation Services and patients, families, faculty, and staff at our Galveston and other regional campuses.
  • The Fellowship program is tailored to meet the strengths, and needs of each fellow, and involves a one-year, full-time commitment with an option to extend the fellowship an additional year at the program director's discretion.

Eligibility

  • A terminal degree in an academic or professional discipline with preference given to candidates with doctorates in bioethics, philosophy, theology, nursing, behavioral sciences, social sciences, medicine, or law.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong skills in communications, team interaction, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve goals.
