Dr. Kristen Peek is Senior Vice President and the Founding Dean of the School of Public and Population Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is a social epidemiologist and an active researcher, teacher, mentor, and educational leader. She has a PhD in Sociology from Duke University and a postdoctoral fellowship in Epidemiology from the University of Florida School of Medicine. Her funded research focuses on the impact of stress, community, and the environment on health disparities. She has served as the principal investigator for multiple NIH grants on the impact of the social environment on health disparities and has been continuously funded for 25 years. Her research, mentoring, and administrative experience reflect a strong commitment to public health, education, and mentoring in the State of Texas and beyond.
