Read Dr. Hill's Welcome Message
Greetings to the Faculty, Fellows, Students, Staff, Collaborators, Health Advocates, and Community Members of the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities, I welcome you to our departmental webpage with exuberance and cheer! As the inaugural department chair, I usher in this new season with high hopes, positive energy, tenacity and the wherewithal required to mobilize population health impact with measurable change. We are at a critical time in our country and in the world where the health of our population requires our undivided attention. The important collective work that we do and will do is critical to realizing quantifiable improvements in the health of populations for current and future generations.
Our mission is to position the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities at the UTMB School of Public and Population Health as the premier academic program leading research, scholarship, and education in population health in Texas with a national and global reach. Through this mission, the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities actualizes our mission by helping each community member to achieve better health.
As we stand together in 2025, with the year 2026 on the horizon, the magnanimous faculty, dynamic staff members, and future public health practitioners represented by our study body join on one accord, with one purpose, to invest in shaping a path for all people to achieve health. I encourage you to review the bios of our faculty, learn more about their work, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
For prospective students who are interested in a career in population health and desire to address the factors that contribute to differences in health outcomes across varied groups of people, this is the institution where the culture, values, and principles intersect. The principles of public health live and breathe with authenticity here. I personally encourage you to explore UTMB’s School of Public and Population Health to gauge fit and interest.
I look forward to the possibilities that lie ahead and the population health impact that our team will make in Texas and throughout our great nation with a global reach. We are building a foundation at the School of Public and Population Health that will last and extend the health impact of the 133-year history of UTMB’s medical school, the State of Texas’ first medical school that began in 1891!
It is my privilege to welcome you to the Department! I encourage you to peruse the webpage to learn more about our department, faculty, staff, and students.
In Solidarity,
Mandy J. Hill, DrPH, MPH, HIVPCP
